Matching of Charts for Marriage—A Comprehensive View.

Today institution of marriage has become very fragile. Many criminal stories are making headlines of news channels, social media and printed media. Even brides are taking lives of their grooms in a very cruel manner. There are many reasons for this sad state of affairs. But one of the reasons is that a thorough study of charts of the boy and girl is not made before taking decision about their marriage. Many parents who do not know full scope of astrology decide the marriage of their children on the basis of Kuta agreement  and Mars Dosha (manglik)  only . Such a snap-shot approach to matching of charts for marriage purposes may lead to disastrous results. Actually matching of charts for marriage is not an easy job. It requires many years of practical experience as well as a good knowledge and understanding of the theoretical aspects of astrology. Following points should be considered in matching of charts for marriage purposes.

1. First of all it is most important to examine the approximate longevity of both the partners first. Premature death of either party to the match results in great pain and unhappiness. Therefore the charts with very short life should be rejected. Approximate longevity of both the partners should be almost equal or the gap should be minimum. There are many methods of calculation of longevity given in astrology classics. Longevity should be calculated by at least by two such methods. I have found that PAM method and Orissa method  of calculation of longevity give very good results.

 2. After ascertaining that there is not wide gap between the approximate longevity of the prospective bride and groom we should examine afflictions to Ascendant/its lord, fifth house/fifth lord, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter. If these are afflicted, weak or ill -placed one may have mental illness, nervousness, intellectual confusion etc. Such persons may not be able to take wise decisions and may even suffer from psychological complexes.

Moon-Ketu combination should be watched with care. Such persons suffer from severe inferiority complex.  However this combination is good if it occurs in chart of those pesons who have spiritual inclinations. The chart should be rejected If Moon is afflicted by two or more malefics.

Moon-Mercury combination is not good especially when it occurs in Scorpio and Pisces signs. Such persons may look normal outwardly but actually they have serious negative emotions in their hearts. Such morbid emotions are not only not conducive to happy married life but can also lead to serious consequences. Association of  Moon with Venus or Jupiter is generally welcome if unaspected by malefics. More combinations for mental deficiencies in the chart may be looked in classical works of astrology Charts having mental deficiencies should be rejected.

3.Planetary combinations in some charts show multiple marriages. Multiple marriages in most parts of the world are prohibited by law. Hence second marriage is possible only after death of partner or after divorce. Charts showing multiple marriages should be carefully assessed before arriving at any conclusion. Charts indicating multiple marriages also cover cases of extra marital relations. It has been observed that dual signs on 1/7 axis of the birth chart and navamsa generally give more than one marriage .If Venus is also in dual signs the dual sign then double marriage is more certain. The 2/7/11 connection also indicate more than one marriage. Multiple afflictions to the seventh house but no severe affliction to Venus also indicate more than one marriage. Charts showing multiple marriage can lead to breakup of the first marriage by death or divorce of the spouse.

4.After the matching of both the charts on above points is cleared, we should resort to Bhava Milan or Dosha Samya i.e. balancing of malefic content . For Bhava Milan we study malefic influences on fourth seventh, eighth and 12th houses of both the charts. If  Sun, Saturn, Mars or Rahu/Ketu have PAC connection with any of the above houses in male chart, the similar afflictions should also be there in female chart.

5.Sun if placed in the 2nd,4th,7th,8th or 12th house either from Lagna or from Moon-sign is not good for happiness of married life. Such persons face marital problems or even separation especially in Sun dasa. The fifth and ninth aspect of Jupiter on Sun acts as a saving grace in such charts.

6. Now a days institution of marriage has become very complicated. Not only brides are treated brutally by the grooms but grooms are also being murdered mercilessly by their wives for the sake of property ,love affairs  and claiming insurance money after his death. Such incidents show that their is total lack of moral values in modern society. Hence it is very important not only to trace combinations of brutality against life partner but also criminal tendencies.

In such cases in addition to 7th and 8th houses fourth house becomes important especially in dowry cases. The seventh house shows the husband and second from it i.e eighth house his family. Fourth house shows domestic atmosphere.

Many combinations of enmity between husband  and wife are given in classics like Brihat Parasher Hora Shashtra, Jatak Tatwa,Jatak Parijat and Brihat Samhita etc. In short seventh lord in sixth house aspected by malefics gives enemity  between husband and wife. If there are malefics like Saturn,Mars,Rahu and Ketu in the seventh house and seventh lord is in malefic rashi and Navamsa the life partner is wicked. According to Jaimini Astrology combination of Darakarka and Gyatikarka and aspected by malefics in a chart may give inimical relations with the life partners. More such combinations should be seen in both the charts before  saying okay to matrimonial alliance.

7. It has been observed by the study of a large number of horoscopes that relations between husband and wife are harmonious if their Atamakarka  planets are natural friends and are harmoniously placed in the main chart and Navamsa. Placement of Lagna, Moon Lagna harmoniously placed from each other give good relations while their placement in 6/8 or 2/12 position lead to trouble and strained relations between the couple.

8. According to Sh. K N Rao if there is  not much malefic association in seventh ,eighth and twelfth houses or there are equal malefic association in these houses and dasas after marriage are good of both or even one partner the marriage continues somehow. But if dasas of both the partners are bad either marriage breaks or there is some bad event in marriage.

9. If seventh lord is placed in its own nakshatra it is not good for marriage. Both the partners should not get bad dasas at the same time and dasas of male and female should not change at the same time.

10. Marriage in the dasa of Saturn-Rahu and antara of a malefic in the MD of 7th lord is not good. Marriage in chhidra dasa and dasas having connection with sixth or twelfth navamash is also not good.

11.If there is difference of one degree in sixth and seventh lord  it may lead to court cases and divorce.

12. Shri Z.Ansari has given following important principles about matching of charts in his book,”Bliss and Agony of marriage”:-

A) There should be attractions between the boy and the girl if they are born in the Ascendant’s sign which falls just opposite to each other.

B) If Mars is occupying the place of Venus in the horoscope of other partner it gives strong desire for sex. The close association of such persons may prove dangerous unless some other modifying factors are present in two horoscopes.

C)  If Venus is located in the place of Sun or Moon in the horoscope of another partner, it gives strong attachment and affection. As a result the married life of a newly wedded couple will be happy and prosperous.

D) If Sun is placed in the trine from Moon of the other partner or when Moon is similarly placed, this will bring a deep friendship between the boy and the girl after they marry each other.

E) If the places of the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant in one horoscope are afflicted by malefics in the other Chart, it will bring disaster in the life of the couple. There will not be a satisfactory relations between the two whose planets are mutually posited in such a manner.

13. If all above factors are suitable the Kuta Agreement should be done. Bhakoot and Nadi matching are most important in Kuta Agreement. Mars Dosha and its cancellation must be matched to avoid evil results.

If Saturn, Mars or other malefic is placed in the same house of a person in which Mars of another is placed then it will ward off the evil effects of Mars Dosha.

If the bride’s nakshatra is one before bridgroom’s nakshatra it is considered highly malefic and should be avoided.

14. Before marriage try to find a good match as if it is your free will and after marriage accept it as your destiny.
